Secret Students

As an incentive to follow classroom and school rules and to create a positive learning environment where students can take risks and thrive, I use what is called “Secret Students”.  Each morning I will place two names into a jar that is located on the board.  Throughout the day I will check in on my “Secret Students” to see if they are doing what is expected of them.  At the end of the day if the “Secret Students” did what is expected of them, their names will be revealed, and they will choose a prize.  If a student or both students did not display expected behaviors during the day I will not reveal their names and I will place their names back into my pocket.  As a class we will then reflect on areas where our days could have been better.  No student will ever feel as though they have been put on the spot and every child will benefit from reflecting on ways in which they could have a better tomorrow!  Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!

Notes Folder

Please provide your child with a RED Poly 2-Pocket folder.  Your child will be expected to bring this folder to school each day.  Any written communication, lunch money, bus notes, etc... should be placed in this folder.  All student work and written communication from school will be placed in this folder as well. Your child will hand this folder in every morning to be checked.  This will help to eliminate lost notes or lunch money!  Thank you for your cooperation!

PARENT PICK-UP

Burgess Elementary School institutes the Careful And Rapid Dismissal System (CARDS) for every family that plans to pick up their child at the end of the school day. This system requires parents to obtain a number placard from the Main Office prior to the day you plan to pick up your child. This placard will be used every day your child is picked up from school.

The purpose of this system is to keep bus traffic and auto traffic separate. When entering for pick up with a placard, you must enter Burgess School Road from Burgess School Road off of Cedar Street. If you arrive at the school without a placard, you will be required to park in the Main Parking lot, enter the building and wait until staff members complete the CARDS process before signing your child out.

If you have any questions about CARDS, please contact the Main Office in person or by phone at 508-347-7041.

Birthdays

Burgess Elementary School has adopted a Healthy Celebration Protocol. Students’ birthdays will continue to be recognized within the classroom but will not be celebrated with food items.

If you would like to have your child hand out birthday invitations in class, I ask that one be given to every child, all the boys, or all the girls.  Otherwise, invitations need to be dealt with outside of school to avoid hurt feelings.  Thank you for your cooperation!
